Trust me on this… you need a mirrored disco ball in your home – and I’m here to tell you why!

It Started With an Idea
I was looking around our house one day, enjoying the sunshine streaming in through the windows, when an idea popped into my head. Of course I acted on this idea right away and bought a 16″ mirrored disco ball to use in our house. I was SO excited when it was delivered!
I opened that box so quickly – I just couldn’t wait to see if this idea of mine was going to work the way I envisioned it.
As soon as I removed the disco ball from the box, our house was instantly filled with sparkles! I couldn’t help but smile. There were sparkles everywhere! It was just the look I had envisioned!
One of my teenage sons walked into the room as I stood there holding the disco ball and grinning at the sparkles. He laughed and said “What have you done now?!” I told him I wanted sparkles in our rooms. He laughed and said “Mom, you’re crazy. You’re like one big kid” as he gave me a big hug. He was laughing while he was hugging me, and said “Only you, Mom. I love how you love to have fun.” (I just love that kid)!
And yes, I am in love with this mirrored disco ball and all the dots of light that is spread around our rooms!
The Sparkles
The back of our house faces south and is almost entirely windows that run nearly from floor to ceiling. We have an open floor plan, so the kitchen, dining room, and great room are all in this space. It was (finally) sunny the day my disco ball arrived, so I placed it in several different areas of the room to see which location produced the most sparkles. Once I found the optimum spot, it looked amazing! There were sparkles on the ceilings, floors, and walls. All the shelves of house plants were covered in sparkles. Even our cats thought the dots of lights were interesting. This disco ball produces just the look I was hoping for!
Everyone who walks into this space can’t help but notice the dots of light everywhere, and the sparkles make them smile – which makes me smile.
Even on cloudy days, the mirrored ball still looks awesome sitting on the floor by the windows. It’s become an accent piece that I love. I couldn’t be happier with how this simple idea turned out. Maybe it’s time to break out the disco music of the 70’s! You should be dancinnnn’ – yeah!
Did You Know?
Chances are you’ve seen a mirrored disco ball before – either in person or in the movies. But did you know they’ve been around since the late 1890s? These mirror-covered spheres were especially popular in the 1920s in ballrooms and dance halls. They surged again in popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s and could be found in disco dance clubs everywhere. Now you can bring the magic of a mirrored disco ball into your home!
You Need a Mirrored Disco Ball in Your Home
Okay, maybe the word “need” is a little strong. But, if you have a room that gets plenty of sunlight, a mirrored disco ball is sure to make you smile! And everyone could use a few more reasons to smile, right?!
The disco balls come in a variety of sizes, so you’re sure to find one that fits your space. Even a 4″ disco ball can add a lot of sparkles to a room.
Here are some ideas on how to use your disco ball:
- Hang a 4″ mirrored disco ball in a sunny bathroom window for a spectacular lighting display. Imagine the surprise your guests will have when they use that bathroom!
- Set an 8″ mirrored ball on a sunny windowsill, such as in a kitchen or dining room. The unique lights will make meals more fun.
- Place a 16″ mirror ball on a floor near a window, perfect for a living space. With a larger ball, there will be more sparkles everywhere!
- Place several 12″ disco balls next to each other near your shelves of house plants. While the dots of light won’t help the plants grow, basking them in sparkles looks pretty darn amazing!
- Fill a basket or bowl with a variety of disco ball sizes – from 2″ (like this set) to 6″ – and set the basket on a coffee table in a sunny room. Sparkles all around!
- You can also use your mirrored disco balls at night! Just set up an uplight or two aimed at the mirrored balls and you’ll have plenty of sparkles for a magical evening.
