Where to Buy Awesome Planters and Pots Online for Your House Plants

I live in the middle of practically nowhere. I love living here. Sure, the shopping around here is pretty much null and void, but I’m okay with that too! I just order the things I need online, wait a few days, and enjoy the packages when they arrive.

I collect house plants (and I buy those online, too, but that’s another post). Sometimes I have more plants than planters. Sometimes I have more planters than plants. It’s a vicious (and oh so lovely) cycle.

I’m picky about the pots I choose. With so many plants, the pots I pick need to be affordable. And as a home decor fanatic, they need to be stylish as well. There are SO many different kinds of pots! There are pots with drainage. Pots without drainage. Large pots, medium pots, and small pots. There are plain pots and decorative pots. Pots with saucers and pots with stands. Pots that are round. Pots that are square. There are pots made of ceramics, clay, cement, and fiberglass. There are plastic pots, too, but those aren’t for me.

While I have a very limited selection of pots and planters near me, there are hundreds and hundreds of choices available online!

People often ask me where I buy my pots, so I thought this post would be helpful. I’ll share my favorite online stores (you might be surprised by some of them), and I’ll share my tips for finding just the right pot.

Ready?

Let’s dive in!

NOTE:  All planters shown below were available at the time I wrote this post. Inventory changes rapidly, so if you spot something you love, grab it before it’s gone!

I only write about things I love or personally own. Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. At no cost to you, I’ll receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link. I hope you find something you enjoy as much as I do!

Online Sources for Planters and Pots

Before we get started, let me just clarify. To me, “planters” and “pots” are pretty much the same thing – at least in the sense of this article. “Pots”, in general, are usually smaller and sized for just one plant. Where a “planter” is typically used for more than one plant (and often used outside on patios and decks).  Just know that as you read through this article, I’ll use “pots” and “planters” to mean the same thing – a place for your plants to live in while they grow.

For more information about a planter shown below, just click on the image. The images are handy links to the stores where you can buy the planters.

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite sources for pots.

Kirklands

Kirklands also has a wide assortment of planters. If you have a store near you, you can order online and pick up in the store if you prefer.

Here are some awesome pots available right now.

World Market Cost Plus

For planters with a bit of world flair, make sure to check out World Market.

World Market often has sales, and their inventory changes usually with the seasons. You can also sign up for their rewards program (it’s free) and then get even more savings for member-exclusive items.

Here are some of the current pots at World Market that I love.

TJ Maxx

Most people don’t realize that TJ Maxx has a lot of home decor products, including planters. And these things are available to buy online!

I often find the best prices on planters at TJ Maxx. And when they go on sale, they’re even less expensive. The quality is very good, and there are a lot of styles to choose from.

Here are some of my current favorites (and I seriously had a hard time limiting these choices to just three)!

Wayfair

There are literally thousands of planters available at Wayfair! My best advice to you here is to take advantage of their search filters to narrow down the type of planter you’re looking for. Or, you could pour yourself a cup of coffee and browse all their planters!

I could share probably a hundred different planters I like from this website, but I’ll narrow it down to these top three (and that’s not an easy task)!

All Modern

All Modern is a part of Wayfair, but with more of the modern and mid century type products. They always have a lot of planters available – some that you’ll probably also find on Wayfair, but not all. It’s definitely worth taking a peek to see what’s available.

Here are a few favorites.

Joss & Main

Joss & Main is also in the Wayfair family, and they also have a ton of planters available. I like that this website has the planters organized by type, making it much easier to find just the type of planter you’re looking for. For example, tabletop planters, floor planters, decorative planters, hanging planters, etc.

You’ll probably see some of the planters you already saw on Wayfair, but the prices are often less expensive on Joss & Main.
TIP: Make sure you shop for the same planter on all three of these websites to find the one that has the best price.

Here are some favorites from Joss & Main.

H & M

H & M has some really cool planters, and they are all very affordable. Their inventory changes, usually with the season, and there is always a good variety available.

Here are some of my favorites.

Lowe’s

Did you know that Lowe’s not only has their brick and mortar stores, but they also have an awesome selection of products available online? The planters they have on their website are often not available in their stores, and they have a really nice selection.

Here are some of the planters I have from Lowe’s.

Home Depot

Home Depot is also a great source for finding planters online. They have a huge variety and you can find planters that are affordable.

Here are a few cool pots available at Home Depot.

Target

Target is a popular place to shop, and they do have planters in theirs stores – but usually in the Spring and Summer months. Their online store has a lot more inventory than what’s available in the store, and that inventory is available year around.

Here are some of my favorite planters available at Target.

Walmart

Like Target above, Walmart is another popular place to shop. Their online selection of planters far exceeds what you’ll find available in their store, and the online planters are available year round.

Here are some of my favorites from Walmart.

Etsy

I love buying planters on Etsy! Not only can you find homemade pots that are very unique and one-of-a-kind, you can also find vintage pots! I LOVE vintage pots! A vintage McCoy, Hull, Haeger, USA or other brand planters are sure to make your plants look fabulous!

Here are some of the vintage planters I love.

Amazon

Of course, no list would be complete without Amazon. Some people love buying from Amazon, some people not so much. But they DO have a lot of awesome planters that you can’t find at other places, and their prices are usually reasonable. Definitely worth a look.

Here are just a few of the planters I have from Amazon.

Pier 1 Imports

Pier 1 has a lot of fun and stylish pots. If you have a Pier 1 store near you, you can order online and pick up in the store if you like that method. Otherwise you can have your order delivered to you.

Pier 1 often has their planters on sale, so chances are good you’ll find some great deals throughout the year.

Here are some of my favorites (available as I write this article).

UPDATE (September 2020): Pier 1 Imports is going out of business. Their online store is no longer available, but they are still running close-outs in their brick-and-mortar stores.

Tips for Finding Just the Right Pot

Here are some additional tips to help you find new pots for your plants. I hope you find these ideas helpful.

  • Buy it for the pot – Sometimes when I’m shopping online (and in the stores) I spot pots I love that have artificial plants already in them. If the price is right, I buy the pot and plant, then just remove the artificial plant and use the pot for my live plants. I’ve found a lot of awesome pots this way! (By the way, you can donate the artificial plant to your local thrift store, or use the plant as embellishment on gifts instead of using bows).
  • Search for Pot and Planter – Some websites have different search results depending on which word you use in a search. Make sure to search each website once for the word “pot” and then another search using the word “planter”.
  • Use Outdoor planters – There’s really no reason you couldn’t use a planter indoors that was made for outdoors. Often times the planters made for outdoors are slightly larger and have drainage holes, but these planters are great for large plants inside the house. Just make sure you have a saucer or plastic pot liner in or under your pot to make sure to protect your floors from water.

So there you have it! A list of places where you can start your online shopping adventure for pots for your plants!
