3 Things I Spotted This Week – #15

Since my job is an online store and mentoring ecommerce business owners, I spend a LOT of time online each day. While most of that time is spent working, I do occasionally stumble across websites, articles, and cool things that I really like. I save these things to a Pinterest board, so someday when I have some free time, I can go back to that board and enjoy the things I found.

Here are three random things (in no particular order) that I am really loving this week. Maybe you’ll find them interesting, too!

#1 – Mobile Photo Printer

I have been taking pictures since I was around 10-years old. In all this time, I still prefer having printed photos versus just digital images. I miss the days of dropping off your film, anticipating how your photos are going to turn out. I also really like being able to write on the back of the photos – you know, things like the date, the name of the person or place in the photo, and anything special about why I took the photo.  Well, now – even in the digital photo age – you can quickly and easily print your photos so you can write on the backs of them. All you need is a mobile photo printer such as this HP Sprocket Plus that I stumbled on this week!

This printer is wireless – you just need a Bluetooth connection. It’s a small device, so easy to carry along with you on your photo adventures. The printer doesn’t even use ink! Instead, it heats up the photo paper to produce the colors – how cool is that?! This printer is definitely on my “wish list” for photography gadgets.

#2 – 360-Degree Photos

Another cool gadget I spotted this past week allows you to take 360-degree photos using your iPhone. Check out the Insta360 – what a cool tool this is!

You just attach the gadget to your phone, aim, and shoot. The Insta360 Nano S has two lenses that take photos both front and back. The included app then stitches the photos together to produce a seamless 360-degree view.

I think this tool would be fun to use on vacations, while out fishing or cruising in a boat, or even while going on walks in the woods. So many fun possibilities!

#3 – Curio Cabinets

I really prefer a very minimal look when it comes to our home decor. Trust me, my Mom collected everything and I was the lucky one who got to do all the dusting. There was nothing I liked better to do than dust my way through a Saturday as a kid – not! While I really liked Mom’s collections, I certainly didn’t like the dusting! When I moved out and my husband and I built our home, I swore I wouldn’t have ‘things’ decorating every surface, collecting dust. Since that time, the minimal look has suited us just fine.

Yet… in my line of work, I find some really amazing pieces from the past. These objects are just too cool to keep stored in my shop space. I’d really love to be able to display them in our home before they sell. The display would be a never-ending, always-changing collection of unique and unusual vintage and antique items, all with their own interesting stories. But… I don’t want to have to dust them.

I recently got the new IKEA catalog in an email. I rarely shop at IKEA and I haven’t looked at one of their catalogs in many years. For some reason, I felt compelled to open the catalog and take a peek. Look what I found!!! Glass door display cabinets. In black! It wasn’t even so much the cabinets that caught my eye, it was the STUFF in and on the cabinets! Always a picker’s eye, I guess. I have MANY items that are very similar to the items displayed in this photo. And I love how they all look together!

While I won’t be purchasing the cabinets from IKEA, I AM now on a quest to find similar cabinets or bookcases that my husband (the handy man that he is) can build glass doors for. I have a perfect wall for three cabinets like this. And with glass doors, I’ll be able to display my awesome vintage treasures in a way that I won’t have to spend time dusting them! A win-win. I can’t wait to find / create / build curio cabinets like these!
