Here’s a quick and easy recipe for making bagels – it takes just two ingredients and can be made in less than 30-minutes (5 minutes assembly time, 25 minutes baking time).
The bagels turn out dense, yet sort of ‘fluffy’. They can be eaten plain, or flavored with toppings after baking, or with flavoring added directly to the dough before baking. It’s fun to experiment to see which flavor combinations you like best.
This recipe makes four bagels.
What You Will Need:
- 1-1/8 cup Self-Rising Flour
- 1 cup Full-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt (I like using Fage 5% Yogurt)
- Spray Olive Oil (or any spray cooking oil)
- Everything Bagel Seasoning (or seasoning of your choice)
- Cookie Sheet
- Parchment Paper
What You Do:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a medium size mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour and yogurt.
- Knead the dough mixture for about 2-4 minutes until it forms a ball (it will feel a little sticky).
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
- Shape the ball of dough into a disk that is about 6-7 inches in diameter.
- Cut the dough into four equal sections.
- Roll each section of dough into a ball, then flatten to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Use your fingers to hollow out the center of each bagel into a bagel shape.
- Spray the tops of each bagel with cooking spray, then sprinkle with seasoning of your choice.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve.
Additional Tips:
- Make a Double Batch – If you’d like, make a double batch (just double the recipe) so you have bagels for another day. Store the bagels in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.
- Mix in Flavors – If you prefer, you can add seasoning to the dough to make flavored bagels (versus just flavor as a topping). For example, mix Everything Bagel seasoning right in with the dough.
- Serve with Cream Cheese – The bagels taste great themselves, but you can dress them up with cream cheese. Flavor your cream cheese however you’d like, or eat it plain. We like to mix 4-8 ounces of cream cheese with finely diced green onion, garlic powder, and diced chives. Yum!

I’m going to try to make this with oat flour. I’ll have to do a little research on oat flour to regular flour ratios. Cross your fingers!
