I’ve mentioned this here before (in my last review The Whispering Room) – that I am a huge fan of Dean Koontz novels. I just (reluctantly) finished reading Ashley Bell.
Before I give my impression, here’s the text on the back cover:
“Bibi Blair is told by her doctor that she has one year to live. She replies, “We’ll see.”
Her sudden recovery astonishes medical science.
Fierce, funny, dauntless, Bibi is convinced by an enigmatic woman that she escaped death so that she can save someone else. Someone named Ashley Bell. But who is Ashley Bell? And save her from what, from whom?
Bibi’s search for Ashley sends her on the run from threats both mystical and worldly, including a rich, charismatic cult leader with terrifying ambitions.”
Have you ever read a book that made you think it must have been written just for you? Or maybe even somewhat about you?
Wow. That’s kind of how this book made me feel.
At 716-pages, I knew this would be a book that I could savor on these Summer days lounging at the pool. I hoped to read just a couple of chapters a day so I could stretch this book out and make it last longer. Instead, I found that it was very difficult to put down! It drew me in right away and whenever I would tell myself “just one more chapter, then put it down”, I’d find myself reading another chapter. Then another. So much for self-control, right?! But really, it is that kind of a book!
I immediately connected with the main character and was always anxious to see what was going to happen next. Her character is very likable and down-to-earth. The story felt like it was constantly moving and it definitely held my interest. I thoroughly enjoyed the story – it is very unpredictable – and I like that.
I won’t spoil the story for you by giving any of the plot away, but I will tell you, be prepared for twists and turns that you didn’t see coming!
I highly recommend this book. Go buy or borrow it today!
I definitely give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
