Philodendron xanadu
I have a thing for philodendrons. There are so many different varieties! They really are one of my favorite types of plants. When I discovered the Xanadu, I knew I had to add it to my collection.
About the Plant
The Xanadu Philodendron is also called a Winterbourn Philodendron.
This tropical plant is extremely hardy and is very easy to grow. The plant is native to Brazil.
This philodendron plant grows very wide – up to 5-feet in diameter – while reaching heights of up to 4-feet tall. It’s an upright philodendron, versus the more typical vining type. The leaves have a very interesting lobed shape and they are very glossy – sort of exotic looking. The leaves can get up to 16-inches long and around 10-inches wide. Because of the interesting leaves and overall shape of the plant, it is a focal point in any house plant collection.
The best lighting for this plant is bright indirect light – it does not like direct sun.
Make sure to keep the Xanadu soil consistently moist, but never soggy. Water the plant until water drains out the planter, and then allow it to dry out partially before watering again. This plant does like more humid conditions, but it does just as well in dryer air (it really is quite hardy).
The Xanadu plant gets better and better looking with age!
This plant is toxic to humans and pets.
Why I Love It
I really love the leaf shape and overall shape of this plant. I think it’s a unique looking plant, and I also love that it’s easy to grow and care for. The large size is also really nice – making it a focal plant in any room.

I got my Xanadu Philodendron online at HomeDepot for $19.98 in a 6″ pot (approximately 1-1/2-foot tall – it arrived as shown in the first photo below). You can also find this plant at AmericanPlants on Etsy for $49.99 in a 1-gallon pot.
