There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about having plants inside your home. I love the look of plants tucked into the corners of a room, displayed on coffee tables and kitchen counters, and gracing bathroom vanities.
Plants help a room feel grounded.
I especially love unique plants. Plants that act as conversation starters, and not something you see everywhere you go.
I’m always on the look-out for unique plants, and with this new series on my blog, I’ll share my latest finds with you. Here’s the latest find…

Polka Dot Begonia (Begonia Maculata Wightii)
I’ve always been drawn to things with dots. The dots remind me of bubbles, and well… if you know me, you know how much I love bubbles. When I was looking for a new and unusual plant to add to my growing collection, I spotted this plant (Get it? Spotted? LOL). I knew this was the one.
About the Plant
The Polka Dot Begonia is native to Brazil. The official name of the plant is Begonia “Wightii” Maculata.
This plant has large, long leaves of olive green with silver dots on them. The underside of the leaves is a purplish red. The contrast of colors is really striking!
The Polka Dot Begonia has clusters of large white flowers that burst forth on a single flower stem – they are really beautiful.
This easy growing plant grows best in partial sun and warm temperatures. An east- or west-facing window is the best place to grow this plant. The plant requires normal watering – just give it water when the soil is dry. It likes damp soil, but make sure the soil is not overly wet. The Polka Dot Begonia does like high humidity, so a kitchen or bathroom is an ideal location for this plant.
This fast growing plant can grow up to 30″ tall.
The Polka Dot Begonia is toxic to animals.
Why I Love It
I absolutely love the silvery dots on the dark green color of the leaves. This is such a cheerful plant!
I also like that the plant is easy to grow, requires little maintenance, and is a great conversation piece.
Where to Buy
You can buy this plant online on Etsy from TheLittleJungle for $44.95 in a 6″ pot.
