This week’s plant profile is the Philodendron Pincushion…
There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about having plants inside your home. I love the look of plants tucked into the corners of a room, displayed on coffee tables and kitchen counters, and gracing bathroom vanities.
Plants help a room feel grounded.
I especially love unique plants. Plants that act as conversation starters, and not something you see everywhere you go.
I’m always on the look-out for unique plants, and with this new series on my blog, I’ll share my latest finds with you. Here’s the latest find…

Philodendron ‘Pincushion’
I love the huge variety of Philodendrons available – including this small, compact variety called ‘Pincushion’. It was a popular plant back in the 1970s and is now a collector’s plant.
About the Plant
The hard-to-find Philodendron Pincushion is perfect for fairy gardens or for using in terrariums or vivariums. It’s easy to grow and care for.
Unlike its large-leaf family members, the Pincushion has small narrow leaves and a very compact form. The leaves are a glossy green with reddish stalks.
This plant is easy-to-grow. It likes bright, indirect light and prefers warm and humid environments – though it will do well in less humid environments. It prefers to be watered frequently – best to not let the soil dry out completely, but don’t let the soil stay soaking wet either.
The Philodendron Pincushion is a hybrid plant. It grows to about 6-inches tall in a compact, bushy form – similar to a pincushion.
Like most Philodendrons, this plant is mildly toxic to pets if eaten.
Why I Love It
I really love the small size of this Philodendron and the shape of the leaves. It makes a perfect plant for a bathroom vanity as it doesn’t take up much room and it loves the humidity from the room.
Where to Buy
You can purchase this plant online from Josh’s Frogs for $9.99 in a 2-1/2″ pot.
