This week’s plant profile is the Homalocladium platycladum ‘Ribbon Bush’…
There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about having plants inside your home. I love the look of plants tucked into the corners of a room, displayed on coffee tables and kitchen counters, and gracing bathroom vanities.
Plants help a room feel grounded.
I especially love unique plants. Plants that act as conversation starters, and not something you see everywhere you go.
I’m always on the look-out for unique plants, and with this new series on my blog, I’ll share my latest finds with you. Here’s the latest find…

Homalocladium platycladum ‘Ribbon Bush’
This plant is one of the most unique plants I’ve come across, and I love it! I’m looking forward to when it flowers.
About the Plant
The Homalocladium platycladum ‘Ribbon Bush’ is also known as the ‘Ribbon Plant’ or ‘Tapeworm Plant’.
This unusual plant has long flat leaves that are segmented – they sort of look like a tapeworm. At the nodes, small leaves form new growth. This plant blooms small greenish-white flowers in the late Fall or early Winter. The flowers form on the stem joints – very unique. The flowers then turn to small fruits that are edible.
The Ribbon Bush can grow to 6-feet tall. The green stems are about 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch wide.
This plant can grow in full sun or in shade. Water when the soil is dry, although this plant is drought tolerant to less watering. It really is a very easy-to-grow plant.
The Ribbon Bush is native to the Pacific Islands.
This plant is non-toxic to humans and pets.
Why I Love It
I love how unique this plant is. It’s not something you see very often and it’s one people stop to look at when they see it.
I love the shape of the leaves, and appreciate how quickly this plant grows. It looks great sitting next to other more common plants.
Where to Buy
You can purchase this plant online from 9EzTropical on Etsy for $32.00 in a 6″ pot.
