January is National Puzzle Month (National Puzzle Day is January 29th). What better time to dig into a fun and difficult puzzle!
Puzzles are fun to complete by yourself, or with friends and family. They also make a unique team building exercise to help foster patience and cooperation. Jigsaw puzzles are also a great tool to increase hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and problem solving skills. And… they can be a very relaxing, enjoyable way to spend time indoors.
Our family enjoys setting puzzles together – especially the very challenging puzzles. We leave a puzzle on our center island, and everyone who passes stops what they’re doing for a few minutes to work on the puzzle. It’s fun! Here’s a selection of some of our current challenging favorites.

Lightning Striking a Tree Puzzle
This Lightning Striking a Tree puzzle is very challenging!
The puzzle features a photo of lighting striking a tree. I bought this puzzle Spring 2020 at the start of storm season – it seemed fitting. This puzzle literally sat on our dining room table from March until December – and we still didn’t have it done! We finished all the lighting and the tree, but the remaining sky and part of the grass was very hard. With the holidays, we finally decided to put this puzzle away until Spring 2021 – when we’ll attempt it again.
