I was sort of curious, but life gets busy and I just let it slide and never looked into it.

How Rakuten Works
Stores sign up with Rakuten to be part of their program. They pay Rakuten a commission for sending you to their stores, and Rakuten shares that commission with you as Cash Back through PayPal or by check. There is NO COST to you to use Rakuten!
Just shop the websites you typically visit, and if that website is part of the Rakuten network, you’ll earn cash back on your purchase. It’s that easy! Rakuten pays you the cash back by a check they mail to you, or by PayPal (if you have a PayPal account).
By using the Rakuten browser tool, you’ll see a pop-up appear on the websites that are part of the Rakuten network, showing you how much cash back you’ll receive on your purchase. The browser tool will even alert you if there is a better price on the item you’re browsing – that’s cool! And, if there are coupon codes or discounts available at the website you’re shopping, the Rakuten browser tool will also let you know and you can apply the savings right through the tool. After installing the browser tool, you’ll also see the savings available on various stores in Google, Yahoo, or Bing searches.
How to use Rakuten
To shop available deals through Rakuten and earn cash back and receive discounts, you can either go to the Rakuten website or install the Rakuten browser tool. I’ll show you how both these methods work below.
How to Create a Free Account
You’ll need to create a free account with Rakuten to take advantage of these deals. Creating an account requires your name, email address, and how you want to receive your cash back (check or PayPal).
- Click Rakuten to visit their website.
This link is a referral link – you’ll instantly receive a $30 credit to use through Rakuten by joining through this link.
- I highly recommend you join Rakuten using your email address, versus joining through Google, Facebook, or Apple. Enter your Email address and then click Next.
- Enter a Password and then click Join Now – you’ll be prompted to install the browser tool.
The browser tool is an excellent tool to have! When you’re shopping a website that participates with Rakuten, a pop-up will appear showing you how much cash back you can earn, as well as any discounts or coupons that are currently available.
- Click to Add the tool to your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc).
Once you add the tool to your browser, you’ll be brought to the Rakuten home page and can start shopping, earning cash back, and saving!
How to Shop Current Deals Available Through Rakuten
You can find ALL the hot deals available through Rakuten by going to their website home page.
- Click Rakuten to visit their website.
You’ll see a screen similar to the one below, with Featured Stores appearing. Make sure you’re signed in to see this screen. See notes above on how to create a free account, if you haven’t done so already.
- Scroll down the page, and you’ll see the Double In-Store Cash Back Offers and the Deals, Coupons and Cash Back offers.
- If you see a deal you’re interested in, click on it for more information and then click on the Shop Now button to shop that website and obtain the Rakuten special deal.
For example, here’s the screen for the FabFitFun deal.
- Click the Hot Deals tab to see the daily deals you can save on, then click on any deal you’re interested in to start shopping that website.

- Click the In-Store Cash Back tab to find stores you can shop at in person.

- If you’re looking for something specific, you can use the Categories drop-down menu at the top of the page to choose just the categories you’re looking for – this helps to fine-tune your search for deals.

How to Shop Current Deals Available Through the Rakuten Browser Tool
When you have the Rakuten browser tool installed, it will automatically pop-up and tell you what kind of cash back and deals you can receive at the websites you shop.
- Visit any website – if that website is part of the Rakuten network, the Rakuten browser tool will pop-up and let you know how much cash back you can earn by shopping that website.
Here’s an example of what the Rakuten pop-up looks like. NOTE: If no Rakuten pop-up appears, it just means that website is not part of the Rakuten network.
- When you click to accept the cash back pop-up, just shop as you normally would. Then, when you check out, the cash back will be added to your Rakuten account, waiting for payout – it’s that easy!
The amount you’ve earned will always appear on your Account page on the Rakuten website, so you can check it any time. Once a payout has been made, you’ll receive an email from Rakuten, letting you know about the payout.

If you prefer shopping on your smartphone or tablet, you can use the Rakuten App to earn cash back and receive discounts.
- Visit the app store on your smartphone or tablet and install the Rakuten App.
- Shop your favorite websites through the app and earn cash back.
- You can also use the Rakuten app to earn in-store cash back when you shop in person.
- The Rakuten app also lets you earn 5% cash back at thousands of restaurants!
