3 Things I Spotted This Week – #35

Black and white patterned planters (that you could make yourself), mother-in-law tongues (say what?!), and a very versatile rack for your kitchen… Check out this week’s fun (and eclectic) finds!

#1 – Black and White Patterned Planters

I just love these black and white planters! I’m not crazy about their price, BUT, I know I could paint planters with similar patterns for a similar look.

Since it’s August, many garden centers have planters and pots on sale this time of year. Now is a great time to pick up a variety of three pots and then use outdoor craft paint to paint your own black and white patterns. Use these pots as inspiration, or create your own pattern. Fill the pots with garden mums, ferns, and boxwoods and you have an awesome look for your patio.

#2 – Sansevieria Trifasciata

This Mother-In-Laws Tongue  or Snake Plant is one of my favorite kinds of plants – for several reasons.

When I was young, my Grandma had TONS of houseplants in her house, including a giant Sansevieria. That plant was seriously HUGE! And I loved it. Grandma separated a part of that plant and gave it to my Mom, who also had tons of houseplants. When I moved out of my parents house into my own house, Mom gave me a part of her Sansevieria, and I still have it! I love that my plant was originally from my Grandma’s plant – I think that’s cool.

I also love these plants for their durability. These plants live a LONG time! They are also such an easy plant to care for. I especially love their upright shape – I think that look fits in any home, with any decor.

There are so many varieties of Sansevieria plants, but I have to say, the Trifasciata is my favorite. I love the bright edges and the interesting patterns of the variegated leaves.

This past week, I was browsing online at some of my favorite websites to buy houseplants, and I spotted this plant. The description said the plants shipped would be between 36″-42″ tall. How could I resist?! I bought two of them! They arrived yesterday, carefully packaged in separate boxes. Each plant was in a 3-gallon pot and the tallest part of the plant is 42″ tall! There was only one broken tip from shipment, otherwise they arrived in perfect condition – with just a bit of soil loosening in the pots. I couldn’t be happier!

Now I just have to find the perfect pots to put them in and then I can enjoy them in our master bedroom – where I’m redecorating to a mid-century modern theme. I think these plants are going to fit perfectly among that decor.

If you’re looking for statement plants for your home, I highly recommend these plants!

#3 – Roll-Up Rack

Now this thing looks cool!

We all have those dishes that need to be hand-washed and dried. While drying dishes right after they’ve been washed and putting them away is my preference, there are others in our house who wash the dish and then put it on a towel on the countertop to dry. UGH! That drives me crazy! Of course the towels get wet from the dishes, and then you have a wet towel sitting there. When I spotted this drying rack this week, I thought it looked like a great solution for my family. BUT, I can think of other clever uses for it, too.

For example, I could see using this rack over one part of the sink while washing fruits and vegetables and then setting them on the rack while you continue washing more fruit or vegetables.

I think this rack would also make an awesome cooling rack when baking cookies and other treats. And, it could even serve as a trivet for large casserole dishes just out of the oven.

How would you use a rack like this?

NOTE: Since my job is an online store and mentoring ecommerce business owners, I spend a LOT of time online each day. While most of that time is spent working, I do occasionally stumble across websites, articles, and cool things that I really like. I save these things to a Pinterest board, so someday when I have some free time, I can go back to that board and enjoy the things I found. I enjoy sharing these fun finds with you, and hope you find them interesting, too!
